After writing the script for Sakamoto’s “BILLIKEN”(1996), he penned original stories for both theater and dramatic comics. In 1998, he made his directorial debut with “PORNOSTAR”. After shooting and directing the documentary “UNCHAIN”(2001), he has directed features such as “Blue Spring”(2002), “9souls”(2003)“Hanging Garden”(2005), “THE BLOOD OF REBIRTH”(2009), “Monsters Club”(2012), “I’M FLASH!”(2012) and “CROWS EXPLODE”(2014).On April 11, 2020, he released a documentary film “Planetist” set in the Ogasawara Islands, and “The Day of Destruction” in the same year on July 24th. "The Day of Destruction” was released worldwide on July 24, 2020 and won the Director’s Award at the Italian film festival “Oltre lo specchio 2020” and was further awarded Best Japanese Film.1969年3月10日生まれ。大阪府出身。91年、『王手』（阪本順治監督）の脚本で映画界にデビュー。 98年に初監督を務めた『ポルノスター』で日本映画監督協会新人賞受賞を果たす。その他『青い春』『ナイン・ソウルズ』『空中庭園』などの作品で知られる。 2019年、短編映画『狼煙が呼ぶ』公開。自伝『半分、生きた』を出版。 2020年4月11日、小笠原諸島を舞台としたドキュメンタリー映画『プラネティスト』、同年7月24日『破壊の日』公開。『破壊の日』は全世界で2020年7月24日に公開され、イタリアのオルトレ・ロスペッキオ国際映画祭2020で監督賞を受賞。日本映画のベスト1と絶賛された。
